Grade Recovery

Assessment Recovery

If a student scores either a “D” or “F” on a summative (major) assessment, the student qualifies for assessment/test recovery. In order to take advantage of the program, students must adhere to all criteria set forth through the Iberia Parish recovery policy, including:
1. The opportunity is offered to all students scoring below 75% on any assessment.
2. Students who refuse to take a test, cheat on a test, leave a test more than 75% blank, or do not put forth effort as sufficiently documented by the classroom teacher are not eligible for test recovery.
3. Students who score below 35% on an assessment will need teacher permission to participate in recovery opportunities.
4. Remediation is required before students may attempt assessment recovery.
5. The highest re-score that can be attained through assessment recovery is a 75% C.
6. Students are only allowed one (1) recovery opportunity for each summative assessment.

7. Honors students are only allowed one (1) recovery opportunity for each grading period. On Level students are only allowed two (2) recovery opportunities per grading period.
8. Student must request test recovery within three (3) school days of the assessment being posted in the gradebook.
9. IBC assessments follow their own industry-based requirements and regulations for recovery.
10. Dual enrollment courses are governed by the crediting university. These courses follow university guidelines and are not eligible for assessment recovery.
Additionally, the remediation and assessment must take place within the period of seven (7) school days in which the make-up center is open.

Grading Period Recovery

Grading Period Recovery (Grades 7-12) is a component of classroom intervention that allows for students to recover an “F” that was earned for a marking period. General guidelines for grading period recovery shall include:
1. Students will engage in virtual instruction that is prescribed by the classroom teacher reflective of the standards in which the student is deficient.
2. Students who during the grading period, repeatedly refuse to take a test, cheat on tests, do not complete assignments, leave a test more than 75% blank, or do not put forth effort as sufficiently documented by the classroom teacher are not eligible for grading period recovery.
3. In order to qualify for Grading Period Recovery, the student must have fully participated in the Assessment Recovery Program.
a. Students must have recovered the maximum amount of assessment recoveries possible. On Level students must have recovered two (2) assessments. Honors students must have recovered one (1) assessment.

4. In order to recover a marking period grade, the recovery work must be completed by the end of the next grading period.
     a. If recovery is needed for the 4th grading period of the spring semester, the student must enroll in the district summer school program.
     b. A “C” is the highest grade that will be awarded for grading period recovery.
5. You must enroll within one week after the report card has been distributed, and you must complete the work and take the test before the end of that grading period. For example, if you failed the 1st grading period, you MUST enroll in Grading Period Recovery in the first week of the 2nd grading period AND complete all assignments and assessments before the end of the 2nd grading period.
6. Honors students may recover a maximum of one (1) grading period using Grading Period Recovery and retain honors classification for the course. Honors students recovering more than one (1) grading period using Grading Period Recovery will forfeit honors classification for that course.
7. *Not all courses are available in Edgenuity; therefore, not all courses offer Grading Period Recovery. * If a course does not offer Grading Period Recovery, students must take advantage of test recovery throughout the grading period.

Credit Recovery

Credit recovery is an instructional program for students who have failed core courses taken previously. Credit recovery courses are taught using the computer software program Edgenuity. To recover credit, the student must pass a comprehensive final exam and LEAP, if applicable. When using the Credit Recovery option, the original failure remains on the transcript, and the new passing grade is entered as a separate line (as if this is the second time a student has taken the course). The highest grade you can earn for the course is a C. *Not all courses are available in Edgenuity; therefore, not all courses offer Credit Recovery. *
Once a student has been enrolled in a credit recovery course for over a year and has not completed it, the student will be enrolled in the course face-to-face the following school year.
*A student athlete interested in a Division I or II University MUST repeat the required courses in their entirety to fulfill the NCAA requirements. Students cannot simply repeat the deficient skills of a required course they fail. In other words, they cannot use the credit recovery option for promotion of subjects failed. It will not meet the NCAA requirement for that course. *
